Land of Canaan cyclist dies in accident

A cyclist  died on Saturday night after a motor vehicle hit him as he was riding  along   the Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara public road.

Dead is Lennox Collette, 20, of Lot 4 Public Road, Land of Canaan, EBD.

Police investigations have revealed that at about 9 pm, Collette was struck down by a motorcar driven by a 24-year-old.

The motor car, police said was travelling on the western carriageway when Collette reportedly rode out  of a cross-street and into the path of the motorcar.

Collette, police said, as a result of the impact fell onto the car bonnet before landing on the ground.

The driver immediately stopped and went to check on the cyclist. He was found to be unconscious and was picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. While receiving medical treatment, Collette succumbed due to the injuries he sustained.

A breathalyser test performed on the driver returned negative. The driver is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
