Crane man charged with murdering wife

Natram Lall, the construction worker who is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Bibi Zameena Ally at their Crane, West Coast Demerara home one week ago was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with murder.

Lall was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court.

He is accused of murdering Ally, also known as ‘Annette’, a mother of three of Lot 15, Old Road, Crane, WCD on January 15th.

The matter was adjourned to February 2nd for statements.

Lall attempted to take his own life after the incident. He was hospitalised and discharged from the West Demerara Regional Hospital last Friday after which he was taken into police custody.

Ally was stabbed eight times about her body including to her neck, chest and stomach. The attack happened around the time the couple were retiring to bed around midnight last Tuesday.

Rajpattie Persaud, the dead woman’s mother had previously told this newspaper that she noticed nothing amiss between the two earlier in the day since they were chatting as they would normally do and cooking together before Lall left to go to purchase materials for the construction of an apartment downstairs. When this newspaper visited the home of Ally, Rajpattie had recounted the attack.

“The last word I hear she told him was, ‘Ah want to sleep, ah got to go to work in the morning’ and me eye shut away till when I hear she [scream] and she seh, “Mommy, mommy” and by the time me run out and me big grandson run out fuh approach she bedroom, she run out and fall down in front of meh bedroom door. I seh she unconscious and decide fuh get the alcohol fuh rub she up. I approach him [Lall] and asked him, ‘What happen’ and he seh, ‘She crazy.’ That the word he use to me. That she crazy and she only want to sleep, sleep. Then ah see all the blood start run out from she and then ah see he gat a knife. I didn’t see the knife before then,” she had said. Ally’s brother and other neighbours rushed her to the WDRH where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Lall was afterwards found by the police hiding at one of the neighbours’ house. Upon arresting him they realised that he had ingested a poisonous substance and needed medical attention.

The couple shared three children together. The youngest is seven-years-old.
