Newspaper vendor attacked, robbed of motorcycle in Meadowbrook

Three bandits early Sunday morning attacked a newspaper vendor and robbed him of his motorcycle and a small quantity of cash as he was delivering to customers in Meadowbrook.

The vendor, who asked not to be named, told Stabroek News that the robbery occurred at approximately 3.40 am.

He explained that he was riding out one of the street when the men rode up to him and demanded he handed over his valuables.

“The motorcycles didn’t had lights, two of them were on one and the one was on the other and they told me to give them everything,” he said, while explaining one was armed with a gun.

The vendor said upon stopping, one of the bandits, who was armed with a gun stood behind him while the two others ran through his pockets and took possession of his motorcycle.

The men were able to find $7000 cash and his cellular phone before they made good their escape.  He said the men also took off with his personal belongings such as his licence, bank card,  identification card and house keys.

He related that after he handed over his valuable, one of the bandits suggested that he be shot.

“One turn and said shoot him but I said ‘you have all that I get and still want shoot me’” he recalled. He explained further that the men spent some time debating among themselves whether to shoot him or not. They then dealt him several punches resulting in a gash above his eye.

The vendor said the robbery occurred in less than 10 minutes and after the bandits fled the scene he made a report to the East La Penitence Police Station and was later given a medical to go to the hospital.
