A security guard was yesterday charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl, with whom he was said to be in a relationship.

Esmund Adams, 26, of Wortmanville, George-town, was charged at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan during an in-camera hearing.

The charge states that between December 1st, 2018 and December 31st, 2018, at Princes and Adelaide streets, Wort-manville, George-town, Adams engaged in sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16. The unrepresented man was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him.

Police allege that the teen and the man were involved in a sexual relationship after meeting on Facebook and that he engaged in sexual penetration of the girl at his home. He was investigated after the child told her parents, who then reported the case to the police.

Adams has been released on $150,000 bail and is expected to make his next court appearance on February 25th.
