Teen killed in Farm hit-and-run

A teenager labourer was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Farm, East Bank Essequibo, on Friday night.

The dead teen has been identified as Coyan Trotz, 17, of Lot 12 Farm. He reportedly died on the spot after he was struck down on the Farm Public Road.

The accident occurred at approximately 10.15 pm.

The Guyana Police Force, in a brief statement yesterday, said enquiries revealed that the victim was walking east along the northern side of the road and was a short distance from his home when he was struck down by a car. The driver, who was alleged to have been speeding, fled the scene. The vehicle was only described as silver grey in colour as its licence plate number and make could not be ascertained.

Meanwhile, Trotz’ cousin, Julius Boters, told Stabroek News that he left Trotz on the stairs of their home listening to music and singing along. He added that minutes after, he heard a rapping on their door and when he enquired, the caller informed him that Trotz was involved in an accident.

Boters said he rushed to the scene and saw his cousin lying helplessly on the road. A neighbour, he added, showed up at the scene with his bus and rushed Trotz to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The cousin noted that no one witnessed the accident and persons only responded after hearing the impact of the collision.

The family is calling for the driver to surrender as they said they are seeking justice.
