Soldier dies after fireworks injury

Corporal Seon Rose of the Guyana Defence Force died this morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital following severe injuries he sustained in yesterday’s fireworks explosion which injured seven others.

Message of Condolence on the death of 21331 Corporal Seon Rose

 

Georgetown, Guyana – (February 23, 2020) His Excellency David Granger, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, is saddened at the death of 21331 Corporal Seon Rose of the Guyana Defence Force, who was badly injured during an unfortunate incident on Saturday, February 22, 2020.

 

Corporal Rose, age 31, who sustained burns to 90 per cent of his body died this morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was receiving treatment.

 

Corporal Rose along with several other ranks of the 21 Artillery Company were preparing for Guyana’s 50th Republic Anniversary fireworks display yesterday, when there was spontaneous combustion at approximately 13:30hours aback the Force’s Coast Guard location at Ruimveldt.

 

Corporal Rose enlisted in the GDF on September 7, 2008 and joined the 21 Artillery Company on November 14, 2008.

 

President Granger wishes to thank the staff of the GPHC for their tireless efforts to save Corporal Rose’s life and for their continued treatment of the other injured ranks.

 

The Head of State expresses heartfelt sympathy to Corporal Rose’s wife, Mrs. Tamica Rose, other relatives and friends and the entire GDF fraternity.
