Saturday evening witnessed the coronation of a new champion in the Magnum Mash Cup Futsal Championship as traditional giant Bent Street brushed aside emerging force Rio All-Stars 5-1 at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

The clash, which was witnessed by a large crowd, can be described as an exhibition in offensive efficiency, as Bent Street converted 50% of their total attempts on target on their way to clinching their second title in three years.

The rout commenced after Bent Street had fallen behind to a Kelsey Benjamin goal in the seventh minute.

Colin Nelson, the eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final, then recorded a second half hat-trick in the 20th, 29th and 35th minute to cap off the clinical performance.

With the result, Bent Street walked away with $600,000 and the respective accolade, with Rio All Stars collecting $300,000 compliments of Nigel Hinds Financial Services and the respective accolade. Nelson for his efforts, walked away with the MVP trophy and a Samsung Galaxy cellphone compliments of Nigel Hinds Financial Services.

Esan Griffith, San Sports Director and Coordinator of the tournament stated, “The tournament culminated in grand fashion with a powerful display from Bent Street as they claimed their second title in three years. Rio All-Stars displayed the quality to make the finale and must be commended for their effort but the experience of Bent Street came to the forefront in the championship match.”
