Alesha Jackman on Saturday boxed her way to a gold medal at the Ronald Wilson Memorial Tournament in Barbados.

Jackman, 15, earned a unanimous victory over Chloe Jenkins of Britain.

Winning the lightweight fight kept to her international record unblemished. This was the second overseas outing for Jackman who also won gold at the Caribbean Championships last December.

Jenkins, a seasoned campaigner, received a standing eight count in the first round of the encounter. Guyana Boxing Association’s President, Steve Ninvalle hailed Jackman’s performance and maintained that the association’s decision to focus on the nursery of the sport was  bearing fruit.

Jackman, who was accompanied by coach Sebert Blake, returned to Guyana  yesterday.
