Wakenaam labourer on attempted murder charge

Thirty-four-year-old labourer of Wakenaam, Franklin Griffith, yesterday appeared at the Wakenaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam on a charge of attempted murder.

He was not required to plead and was placed on bail in the sum of $800,000.

However, Griffith failed to post bail and was subsequently remanded to prison.

The charge read that on the night of February 23rd, 2020, Griffith chopped 65-year-old Thakur Lokram also of Sans Souci during an altercation. The two were involved in a heated argument when Griffith pulled out a chopper and allegedly dealt the pensioner several chops about his body inflicting wounds to the man’s head, face, shoulder and left hand.

According to Region Three commander, Simon McBean, Lokram after having been rushed to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital, was transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital due to the nature of his injuries. He is currently listed as critical. 

Investigations in the matter are ongoing.
