Acting Army Chief of Staff Brigadier Godfrey Bess has given his assurance to the heads of the western diplomatic missions that the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) remains apolitical.

Bess gave the assurance during a courtesy visit yesterday at Defence Headquarters, Base Camp Ayanganna, where he also emphasised that the GDF will continue to execute its mandate and abide by its role as stipulated in the Constitution.

The recently sworn-in acting Chief of Staff met with the Ambassador of the United States Sarah Ann Lynch, British High Commissioner Greg Quinn, Canadian High Commissioner Lilian Chatterjee and European Union Ambassador Fernando Ponz Cantó.

According to a brief statement issued by the GDF on its Facebook page, the heads of the diplomatic missions pledged their continued support towards the GDF during the courtesy call.

Senior officers were also present during the courtesy call. These included Inspector General, Colonel Trevor Bowman, Quartermaster General Colonel Sherwin Anderson, Adjutant General Colonel Raul Jerrick and Staff Officer One Special Duties Lieutenant Colonel Colin Henry.
