As the 2020 edition of the biggest party in sport, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) gears up to bowl off on August 18 in Trinidad and Tobago, members of the Guyanese franchise departed these shores last evening on a privately chartered flight. 

This information was confirmed by a close associate of the team. 

This year’s tournament, which will conclude on September 10, will be contested at two stadiums behind closed doors to ensure the proper protection against the COVID – 19 pandemic in a “bubble-like” environment, one similar to what occurred during West Indies’ recent tour of England.

According to other sections of the media, a few of the local-based players departed last evening while the final member of – Chandrapaul Hemraj – will join the squad at a later date. 

The Guyanese franchise, which is yet to win a title in the seven-year running league, will begin their campaign on August 18 against the host Trinbago Knight Riders. 

Knight Riders is the most successful team in the league’s history with three titles while Barbados Trident is the current title holders after defeating Warriors by 27 runs at the conclusion of the 2019 edition.
