16 new COVID-19 cases recorded

Guyana recorded 16 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 554 since March 11th.

This was disclosed by the Ministry of Health COVID-19 dashboard, which was updated after two days. Due to the additional cases, there are now 343 persons in institutional isolation. It was also revealed that 10 of the new cases are males and six are females. These positive results emerged from a total of 115 tests done in the previous 48 hours.

The Ministry did not reveal where the cases were recorded.

According to the Ministry of Health Public Relations Officer (PRO) Terrence Esseboom, while the Chief Medical officer Dr Shamdeo Persaud reported the same statistics on Thursday and Friday, this was not because testing was not being done but rather, they were have difficulties with the daily reports.

The number of recovered cases remain at 189 while the number of deaths and persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU remain at 22 and 3, respectively. There are still 38 persons in institutional quarantine.
