Gov’t meets small parties on Covid-19

President Irfaan Ali and Minister of Public Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, yesterday afternoon, met with the leaders of the small political parties including the Liberty and Justice Party (LJP), The National Movement (TNM), A New and United Guyana (ANUG), Change Guyana (CG)and the United Republican Party (URP) to brief and consult with them on the country’s response to the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

A release from the Office of the President said thatresent at the meeting were Lennox Shuman (LJP), Joshua Kanhai (TNM), Dr. Asha Kissoon (TNM), Jonathan Yearwood (ANUG), Mr. Vishnu Bandhu (URP), Rawle Aaron (URP) and Nigel Hinds (CG).

President Ali, in opening remarks, said that the Government will work with stakeholders especially on matters of national importance such as the COVID-19 pandemic and its ripple effects on the Guyanese people and economy. The President said that the administration thought it best to engage with the smaller parties to ensure that it is moving in the right direction.

Dr. Anthony provided an update on the country’s hotspots, the Ministry of Health’s response, the Government’s new policy directions and future plans. He also entertained questions and suggestions that were raised by the parties’ representatives.
