(Trinidad Guardian) As voters head to the various polling stations today, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has urged them to be brave, keep the exercise peaceful and go with God.
In a final message to supporters at the last lap of the United National Congress (UNC) motorcades at Santa Flora yesterday, Persad-Bissessar advised them, “Just go brave, put God in front and let’s walk behind.”
She seemed shocked when reporters asked her to comment on an incident on Saturday night in which former UNC councillor Phillip Gonzales was stabbed. (See Page 9)
After a few seconds, she said, “I did not know.”
Wishing Gonzales, who is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital, a speedy recovery, she urged, “Let’s all keep it peaceful, put God in front please.”
At a previous motorcade in San Fernando, Persad-Bissessar had expressed concern about the COVID-19 protocols on Election Day including voters using the same ink to dip their fingers and space accommodation at the polling stations.
She also accused health officials of using fear-mongering to keep voters away from the polls. Persad-Bissessar will be voting at Hermitage Presbyterian Primary School today.
