Guyana’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases now at 776

Forty new COVID-19 cases were recorded within the last 24 hours as numbers continue to spike throughout the country.

The increase in cases was observed through the Ministry of Public Health’s COVID-19 dashboard which showed that Guyana’s total  confirmed cases now stand at 776. New cases were recorded in six administrative regions in the country with Region Four seeing the highest increase yesterday as 14 of the new cases came from the region.

Regions One and Nine each recorded eight new cases, while Region Six recorded 6, Region Seven, 2 and Region Three recorded one new case.  Sixty-eight persons are currently in institutional isolation while 298 persons are in approved home isolation. Fifty-five persons are in institutional quarantine while 381 persons have so far recovered from the virus. One hundred and twenty four more persons were tested for the virus increasing the total number of persons tested to 6,297. This still means that less than one per cent of Guyana’s population has been tested for the virus since the initial outbreak in March.  With the death toll as a result of the virus now at 29, this indicates that some 3.7% of persons who have tested positive for the virus in the country have died.
