(Jamaica Gleaner) Prime Minister Andrew Holness last  night announced a range of measures aimed at halting the surge in COVID-19 cases.

“We have now crossed the trip line,” the Prime Minister conceded after announcing another 83 new cases in the past 24 hours.

This has brought Jamaica’s COVID tally to 1,612.

New measures effective August 27 to September 30:

*All-island curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m, daily, effective August 27 to September 30.

(Daily curfew will continue for St Thomas, St Catherine, Kingston, St Andrew and Clarendon from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. until September 2.)

*Suspension of entertainment events requiring permits. (Those for which permits have been granted must be cancelled and promoter refunded).

*Funerals will be prohibited islandwide effective August 27 but burials will be allowed with up to 15 persons including the officiating minister.
