Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony today expressed sympathy to the family, friends, colleagues and patients of Dr. Seepersaud Chatterdeo who passed away early this morning.

A release from  Dr Anthony said that Dr. Chatterdeo was one of Guyana’s prominent paediatricians and once headed the Paediatrics Department of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

“Outside of being one of Guyana’s most respected paediatricians, Dr. Chatterdeo was a dear teacher to several medical students and medical interns. He dedicated his young life to ensuring his students had all his attention and benefitted from his knowledge and experience. He treated his students as his sisters and brothers. Dr. Chatterdeo also contributed immensely to the continuing medical education program for practicing physicians in Guyana.

“Just as families spoke of their great admiration for his professionalism and expertise, they also spoke of his gentleness, generosity and kindness. The families that he served over the years attest to his caring predisposition and even though they might have come from far distances to see him, he made them all feel like family”, Dr Anthony said in his statement.

Attorney General Anil Nandlall posted the following statement on his Facebook page:

“I am shocked to learn, today, of the passing of my Queen’s College form mate, Dr. Chatterdeo Seepersaud.
In school, unlike me, he was always quiet, reserved and studious. He later pursued studies in medicine and unsurprisingly, quickly, became one of Guyana’s leading pediatrician. In his uniquely quiet fashion, he delivered top quality medical services to our country’s most valuable asset- our children.
No one would dispute that his departure was untimely. He had so much more to contribute. The medical profession has lost a stalwart. Our children has lost a great medical provider. Our nation has lost a great son.
To his wife, children and other relatives, I extend my deepest and most sincere condolences.
May his soul Rest In Peace”.

Attorney Sase Gunraj posted the following tribute on Facebook:

“Earlier today, I received the devastating news that this noble soul has been called to the great beyond.
Many may know him as a Pediatrician and he executed that task excellently, including to my children from birth to present. He would take a call at 2am with the same cheerful glee as ever and would always help, no matter what the complaint was. You could even send him a picture of a soiled diaper and he’d willingly accept and advise.
I’ve known him long before he was a doctor and his pleasant demeanor made every interaction meaningful. When we later discovered that we were related, it only solidified our relationship.
Above all this, we shared a love for older Bollywood music. We would exchange music at the strangest times and discuss it, to our mutual joy.
This is a blow to all of us who have benefited from his presence, both personally and professionally. Our country has lost a competent patriot. I have lost a friend and brother.
To his family, his wife Indra, sister Molly and his children, my heartfelt condolences.
Walk good Chats…phir milenge!”
