COVID-hit households could get $25,000

President Irfaan Ali yesterday announced that his government will soon be providing relief to those citizens affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are working on a household intervention of about $25,000 per household,” he told the 28th Annual General Meeting of the Private Sector Commission.  While Ali explained that this measure will be in addition to assistance offered to the Education and Health sectors he did not provide any details on the source or method of the intervention.

He however singled out the Diplomatic representatives of the European Union, United Kingdom, and United States for assisting Guyana in sourcing resources to respond to COVID-19.

“Everybody has been helping. I want to thank them sincerely. They are breaking down the barriers and they are trying to get us access to resources as quickly as possible,” he said.
