La Grange mason killed in hit and run

The Police say they are investigating a hit and run fatal accident which occurred at about  9.40 pm  yesterday on  La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara involving a motor vehicle, make, number and driver unknown and pedestrian Imran Abdul, age 25,  a mason, of Lot 24 Unity Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara.

Enquiries disclosed that the pedestrian had left his brother’s residence at Goed Fortuin Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara, about 9 pm on foot heading south along the eastern side of the road en route to his residence when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle which was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate of speed.

As a result of the collision, the police say that the pedestrian fell onto the eastern parapet where he suffered injuries to his head and back, and the unknown vehicle drove away.

The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious condition and escorted to West Demerara Regional Hospital by the police where he was seen, examined, and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

The body is presently lying at Ezekiel Funeral Parlor awaiting a post-mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing
