COVID-19 claims two more victims

Two new COVID-19 fatalities were recorded yesterday, along with 19 new positive cases.

According to the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard, Guyana’s total coronavirus deaths increased to 44 and 19 new cases were recorded, increasing Guyana’s total positive cases to 1,401.

The ministry in a press release stated that the new deaths include a 67-year-old man from Region Three who died while receiving care at a medical facility, and a 48-year-old man from Region Four. The ministry confirmed that samples were taken from both patients when they were admitted to the various facilities and had tested positive.

Of the new cases, 14 were recorded in Region Four, two each in Regions One and Seven, along with one in Region Three. One hundred and twenty-two more persons were tested for the virus which increased the total number of persons tested to 9,040. There are currently 471 persons in approved home isolation along with 67 persons in institutional isolation which both account for the number of active cases. Ninety-eight persons are currently in institutional quarantine and the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is at capacity with 14 patients.

Twenty-six more persons have recovered from the virus taking Guyana’s total recoveries to 805 persons.
