Ex charged with murdering Golden Fleece woman

Truck driver Nandran Persaud, 42, was yesterday charged and remanded to prison over the murder of his former girlfriend, Lunisa Peters, 24, who was fatally stabbed a week ago.

Persaud, also known as ‘Toppie’ and ‘Flopoy,’ of Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast, made his appearance before Magistrate Esther Sam at an Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge.

He was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on September 9th, 2020, he murdered Peters.

He was ordered to make his next appearance on September 25th, when the matter will be called again.

Previously Stabroek News reported that Peters, of Lot 97 Supenaam Public Road, Essequibo Coast, was attacked by her former partner.

The police had said that the attack was carried out around 11.30 pm on Sep-tember 9th by Persaud, who was visiting at the time. Peters and Persaud previously shared a common-law relationship and were living together until they separated when Peters moved and went to her aunt’s house at Supenaam.

On the night of the attack, Persaud visited the home and was invited inside.

While they were sitting, the police stated that Peters’ phone rang and she answered it and the suspect heard a male’s voice on the other end. The man became annoyed and grabbed Peters by her hair and dragged her into the kitchen, where he retrieved a knife, before taking her to the bathroom and stabbing her.

Peters’ aunt, who heard the commotion, raised an alarm and the suspect ran out of the house. He was later apprehended on the following day.
