Vice President (Ag) of the East Coast Cricket Committee (ECCC) Lalta Gainda has taken umbrage with Bisoondial Singh for comments he made in a recent Stabroek Sport article.

In the article headlined `ECD Cricket Board president Singh eager for DCB Elections,’

Singh, a long-serving cricket administrator, had said that he was pleased with the recent developments with respect to the Guyana Cricket Adminstration Act.

Singh was contacted by this newspaper for a reaction following the announcement that certain injunctions granted against the Cricket Administration Act had been lifted, paving the way for the Demerara and ultimately Guyana Cricket Board elections.

Singh, who has held several positions on various local boards, told this newspaper that he was pleased with the development and was eager for the return of elections.

His remarks has prompted a hostile reaction from Gainda who blamed him (Singh) for the years of cricket impasse.

“…What is alarming about the news article dated Saturday 26th September 2020, is the referral to Mr Singh as a long-serving cricket administrator. Mr Singh was at the GCB for one term, at the DCB for two terms, a total of four as they were concurrent, a period that was dominated with numerous court matters initiated by him and his acolytes,” Gainda said in a correspondence sent to Stabroek Sport.

Gainda added: “This individual does not head a single club on the East Coast and has disenfranchised almost all the active clubs in this sub-association. He has organised no significant cricket tournament for the past six years and is always controversial in his utterings and actions.

“In fact, I would posit that he is the root cause of most of our cricket problems and is surely incapable of managing any cricket.”

Gainda, in the letter said that he wanted to caution the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., and Attorney General Anil Nandlall about seeking advice from Singh, saying cricket would be in “serious trouble” if they venture down that path.

“It is an undeniable fact that cricket on the East Coast of Demerara for the past six years has been sponsored and managed by myself and a few dedicated gentlemen from Enmore, Lusignan, LBI, Ogle, Fairfield, Enterprise, Strathoven and a few other established clubs,” said Gainda.
