Stimulating and refreshing.

That was how President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Steve Ninvalle, described the association’s second round of discussions on Wednesday with Sports Minister, Charles Ramson Jr.

The GBA and other associations held talks with Ramson Jr., at the invitation of the latter at the National Resource Centre during the week.

“The Minister is very positive and he is pointed about the direction that should be taken in order to not only develop boxing, but to develop sports right throughout Guyana,” said Ninvalle who added: “I would say our discussion was stimulating and refreshing.”

Ninvalle pointed out that the Minister’s approach with regards to engaging associations since being sworn in is unique and one that he is happy about.

“We have never had such engagements with previous ministers and from a personal standpoint, I am very happy with what he has laid out. We have to work in a structured way and we also will be meeting with the minister once a month in order to gauge what we should have done and what we actually did,” he added.

Ninvalle used the word ‘structured’ to describe how things will be conducted and applauded the way Ramson Jr., is handling the business of sport so far.

“There is information that we would have to provide to him in a structured way and if you ask me, I think the entire approach of the minister must be applauded. We had cogent discussions and I expect much to come out of it.”

Ninvalle, who described the initial meeting with Ramson as ‘fruitful’, was accompanied to the meeting by Vice President, Major, Gordon Nedd, Secretary Sean Richmond, Treasurer, Dexter Patterson and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Stacy Correia. (Emmerson Campbell)
