Gyms can reopen at 50% capacity, curfew further eased

The Guyana Government today implemented changes in the COVID-19 emergency measures from November 1st which will see gyms being able to open up to 50% capacity after being locked down for months and the curfew being further eased.

In the measures gazetted today, the curfew will run from 10.30 pm to 4 am. The curfew was previously from 9 pm to 4 am.

A gym or fitness centre may be opened but at only 50% capacity and by appointment only to minimize the risk of the spread of the coronavirus.

Subject to the curfew, all places of religious worship can open for religious services including weddings and funerals. Attendance will be restricted to 25% of the capacity of the building.

Sporting events are also permitted subject to the approval of the Minister of Health and compliance with any guidelines the minister might set.

In a statement accompanying the new measures, the government said that it has made a rapid assessment of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and found that “it was fragmented and incapable of administering the public health, economic and social measures needed to keep the population safe”.

These new measures will go up to the end of November.
