COVID-19 death toll rises as man, 92, woman, 77, succumb

The Health Ministry yesterday announced the deaths of two more seniors who had COVID-19, while reporting seven new cases from the latest test results.

With the additional fatalities, who were identified by the Health Ministry as a 92-year-old man from Region One and a 77-year-old woman from Region Two, the country’s COVID-19 death toll stood at 130 up to the end of yesterday.

Both persons died while receiving care at a medical facility.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard revealed that just seven cases were recorded after 264 more persons were tested, which increased the total number of cases recorded by Guyana to date to 4,245, while the total number of persons tested now stands at 20,331.

Of the new cases that were recorded, one case was recorded in Region Three while six cases were recorded in Region Four.

The dashboard listed 712 active cases in home isolation and 73 in institutional isolation. It also stated that there were nine persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, although it is unclear whether these included the two new fatalities as their deaths were not reflected on the dashboard.
