The police today said that an unidentified man was fatally stabbed on Tuesday and another wounded during a brawl at Balamani Backdam, Cuyuni River.
The unidentified man was fatally stabbed after a row erupted between Lethem miner Vivian La Cruz and the unidentified assailant believed to be a Brazilian.
A statement from the police said that after the argument erupted with La Cruz, the assailant fatally stabbed the unidentified man and also wounded La Cruz. The victims were taken to the Bartica Hospital. The unidentified man was pronounced dead and La Cruz was treated. La Cruz was later referred to the GPHC where he remains a patient with wounds to his neck and hand.
The police say that efforts are being made to arrest the suspect.
