Fifty-one new COVID cases, over 25,000 tests done so far

Fifty-one new cases of the novel coronavirus were yesterday recorded in seven of Guyana’s ten administrative regions as cases continue to rise.

This was revealed through the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard.  The total number of cases in the country is now  4,894. Of the new cases, 3 each were recorded in Regions One, Two, Eight and Ten. One case was recorded in Region Three, 18 in Region Four and 20 in Region Seven.

As a result there are currently 955 active cases in the country, 887 of whom are on home isolation while some 68 are within institutional isolation. There are nine persons in the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) even as some 67 persons are in institutional quarantine.

The new cases were recorded after some 424 more tests were done which increased the country’s total number of persons tested to 25,088. The number of deaths as a result of the coronavirus remains at 139. Some 14 new recoveries were recorded which increased the total number of recovered cases to 3,791.
