The pedestrian who was fatally hit by a truck on the Agricola Public Road as he attempted to cross the four-lane thoroughfare on Monday has been identified as Kevin Monderson.

Monderson, a 37-year-old carpenter of Lot 17 Co-op Play Field, Tucville, Georgetown, was struck down while on his way to check the price of roofing sheets.

Police investigations have revealed that the truck was proceeding north along the western lane of the eastern carriageway of the Agricola Public Road. At that time that lane was temporarily activated as a third lane for north-bound traffic.

The driver previously told police that he observ-ed a pedestrian standing on the median facing east. The driver related that while he was about to pass the road head, the pedestrian without looking south, stepped onto the roadway and walked into the path of the motor lorry. Unable to halt the vehicle in time, the front centre portion of the lorry collided with the pedestrian who fell on to the roadway and the rear right side wheel ran over both his legs.

The victim was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The Police report stated that the pedestrian died at around 7.30 am on Tues-day. While hospitalised, he was treated for head injuries, internal bleeding and broken legs.

A subsequent post-mor-tem examination revealed the cause of death as multiple injuries.

An aunt of the deceased, Bridgette Monderson, during an interview with Stabroek News stated that relatives were informed of the accident after it was posted on a social media page in an attempt to seek the public’s help in identifying the man.

The grieving woman said they were concerned about Kevin’s whereabouts, since he was not the type to sleep away from home and that his sister was searching and calling various police stations in an effort to find him.

With the help of someone who commented on the post, Bridgette said the police were able to locate his relatives.

The woman shared with this newspaper that Kevin who was a fan of ‘fowl cock fights’, went on Sunday to Timehri where he engaged in the activity. However, he decided to stay the night at his friend’s house since returning home at that late hour would have been in violation of the coronavirus curfew.

While at his friend’s home, the woman stated that the conversation of zinc sheets came up and that Kevin indicated to his friend that he knew someone who sells them in the Agricola area and offered to stop by and make inquiries.

At the time of the accident, Kevin was on his way to find out the price for the zinc sheets, but unfortunately, he never made it.

The father of one was described as a helpful and loving person.
