Approval not granted for Warapoka lockdown

Regional officials have not granted approval for a lockdown to be instituted in the indigenous community of Warapoka in Region One, Toshao Alan Henry has said.

Speaking with Stabroek News yesterday, Henry revealed that most of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases recorded in the community have recovered.

“Most of the cases that they were keeping in Santa Rosa have recovered and are back here. There are only like about four persons still being isolated now,” he said.

He added that as a result of the few active cases the regional officials have not granted approval for a lockdown to be imposed on the community. He added that while the village council had decided to go ahead with the lockdown regardless of the decision by the regional officials they have decided not to do so as well due to the few cases.
