Woman, 34, dies of COVID, 32 new cases reported

Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll now stands at 154 as one new fatality was recorded yesterday.

According to the Ministry of Health the 154th fatality as a result of the virus was identified as a 34-year- old woman from Region Four.

Meanwhile, some 32 new COVID-19 cases were recorded which increased the country’s total number of positive confirmed cases to 5,697. The new cases were recorded in seven of Guyana’s ten administrative regions. Three cases each were recorded in Regions One, Four and Ten, with 11 cases in Region Two, 4 in Region Six, 7 in Region Seven and one in Region Nine.

These new cases were detected after some 210 more persons were tested for the virus, which increased the total number of persons tested to 32,221. As a result there are now 760 active cases, 40 of which are in institutional isolation while the other 720 are in approved home isolation. There are four patients at the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

Some 44 persons are in institutional quarantine, meanwhile 20 more persons have recovered from the virus which increased the total number of recovered cases in the country to 4,779.
