Twenty-eight new COVID-19 cases were reported by the Health Ministry on Friday, with Region Four accounting for half of the new cases.
According to the Ministry of Health COVID-19 dashboard, the 28 new cases increased Guyana’s total number of positive confirmed cases to 5,839. The new cases came after 330 more persons were tested which increases the total number of persons tested to date to 33,350.
The dashboard’s regional breakdown showed that the cases were recorded in seven of the country’s ten administrative regions; 4 cases in Region One, 14 in Region Four, 2 in Region Five, 5 in Region Ten, and one new case each in regions Three, Six and Seven.
As a result there are now 735 active cases, 43 of which are in institutional isolation while the other 692 are in home isolation. Six persons are now patients at the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Twenty six persons remain in institutional quarantine while 19 more persons have recovered from COVID-19 increasing the country’s total recoveries to 4,944. The death toll remained at 154.
