Two more COVID deaths, 21 new cases

Two more COVID-19 deaths were recorded yesterday, increasing Guyana’s total fatalities to 166 even as some 21 new cases were recorded.

The Ministry of Health on Monday announced the latest fatalities as a 70-year-old man from Region Six and an 85-year-old man from Region Ten.

Additionally, 21 new cases of the virus were recorded after some 373 more persons were tested.

This was revealed in the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard which showed that the new cases increased the total number of positive confirmed cases in Guyana to 6,379 and further the total number of persons tested to date has increased to 38,995.

According to the regional distribution of cases in the country, three new cases were recorded in Region One, seven in Region Two, five in Region Four, one each in Regions Five and Six and two cases each in Regions Three and Ten. As a result there are now 273 active cases in the country, 9 of whom are in institutional isolation while some 264 are in home isolation. Four persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile there are 22 persons within institutional quarantine even as some 37 more persons have recovered thus increasing the total number of recovered cases to 5,936.
