IKO Karate Academy announces major plans for 2021

A major recruitment campaign is among the plans for the International Karate Academy of Guyana.

This was disclosed by the not-for-profit organization in its plans for the year 2021.

The organisation, via a release, noted that the recruitment campaign will begin this month  before the hosting of karate camps during the year.

The coordination of a youth development and empowerment programme in the 10 regions of Guyana is also expected.

Several new dojos across the country will also be opened while the attendance of a team from the Academy of Guyana at a World Karate tournament abroad, is anticipated, which is expected to form part of the highlight in 2021.

The Karate Academy, which kick-started its operations at the end of February of 2020, said it was pleased with its accomplishments in the preceding year and that it was keen on continuing to build its brand.

“The IKO Karate Academy of Guyana is extremely proud of its achievements since its launch inspite of the COVID-19 pandemic which has occurred causing the most significant disruption to the worldwide sporting calendar since World War II,” the release noted.

“Among some of the achievements subsequently are the launching of its official website and social media platforms, the opening of two dojos in Georgetown, along with one in Berbice and one on the West Coast of Demerara, and most recently engaging in a major charity activity that saw the donation of gifts and linens which brought Christmas cheer to the Sophia Care Center,” the release added.

The International Karate Academy of Guyana aims to promote, organise, and popularize the sport of karate across the country.
