Alcoholic pensioner found dead in Hampton Court trench

A dead body of a pensioner was yesterday found floating in a trench at Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast.

Deodat (only name), also known as ‘John,’ 74, of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, is believed to have drowned sometime between January 6 and January 9, 2021.

A Guyana Police Force report stated that the deceased, who was a known alcoholic, was last seen alive by his daughter at around 5.30 pm on January 6th, when he left her home.

The police said that according to the man’s daughter, Deodat, who appeared to be intoxicated, left her residence to head home.

However, the deceased never made it home, causing family members to become worried and a search was launched as a result.

The report said at about 6.30 am yesterday, family members were able to locate the now deceased man, who was found floating with his face down in a trench.

An alarm was raised and the body was fished out and positively identified as Deodat.

The dead man was subsequently transported to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor on duty and officially pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased’s remains are at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
