Forty-nine new COVID-19 cases recorded

Guyana’s infection rate continues on its upward trend as forty-nine new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Thursday after 455 persons were tested recently.

The Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard showed that the 49 new cases increased the total number of confirmed positive cases in the country to 6,745. The 455 new persons who were tested brings the total number of persons tested for the virus in Guyana to 42,782.

According to the dashboard’s regional distribution of cases, seven regions recorded new cases; one new case each in regions Two and Five, 10 in Region Three, 19 in Region Four, 9 in Region Six, three in Region Ten, and six in Region Seven.

As a result the country now has 503 active cases, with 54 in institutional isolation and the other 449 in home isolation. There are 4 persons who are still patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

Further, 43 persons are currently in institutional quarantine and just five more persons have recovered from the virus. This increases the total number of recovered cases in the country to 6,068.
