Kyle Mayers is about to realise his childhood dream of playing for the West Indies.

Barbadian all-rounder, Kyle Mayers has thrown his support behind the West Indies batsmen to do well in Bangladesh.

The all-rounder said “I think the bowling department is a little bit inexperienced and the batting to me is very good. I’ve played with these guys in the A-team series so these guys are accustomed to playing with each other so I think bowling is going to be the most difficult part for us.

Mayers, who is on the cusp of making his debut for West Indies in both 50-overs and Tests as they prepare to play Bangladesh in three One Day Internationals and two Tests made the statements yesterday. Should Mayers make his debut, he would be fulfilling his childhood dream.

According the 28-year-old, should he feature in the playing XI, “It would mean the world to me. Coming up as a child, it’s always my dream to represent the West Indies and to be given the honour would be very special for me.”

So far, Mayers has featured in two T20Is, making his debut against New Zealand in the West Indies’ last tour. He also featured in two A-team matches.

Prior to that, Mayers showed he is in decent form, particularly in the longer format. The left-handed batsman chalked up 654 runs in the West Indies Championship, second only to Jermaine Blackwood. The Barbados Pride middle-order batsman ended with an average of 50.3 and brought up his personal best of 140 during the tournament.

Meanwhile, in the Regional Super50, Mayers scored 249 runs with a highest score of 113 as he ended the season with an average of 41.5. His seam bowling also yielded eight wickets across the two competitions. Mayers noted, “I think my batting will be most useful to the side after assessing the conditions here in Bangladesh.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for the younger guys to establish themselves in international cricket and to gain the experience and try to go out there and play as hard as possible and try to cement themselves for the next series,” he stated.
