COVID cases zoom past 7,000

Guyana’s COVID-19 cases yesterday surpassed 7,000 as 65 new ones were recorded.

This was revealed in the Ministry of Health’s daily COVID-19 dashboard which showed that the 65 new cases increased Guyana’s total number of confirmed cases to 7,015. These new cases came after some 410 more persons were tested which increased the total number of persons tested in the country to 45,075.

According to the dashboard’s regional distribution chart, the new cases were recorded in eight of Guyana’s ten administrative regions. One new case each was recorded in Regions One, Six, Seven and Eight while 11 were recorded in Region Three, 41 in Region Four, two in Region Nine and seven in Region Ten.

As a result Guyana’s active cases now stand at 572 with 29 in institutional isolation and 543 in home isolation. The number of persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit has increased to seven.

Meanwhile, 22 persons are now in institutional quarantine and some 60 more persons have recovered from the virus, thus increasing the total number of recovered cases in Guyana to 6,266.
