A twenty-nine-year-old employee of the Linden Electricity Company Inc. died after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a car at Mackenzie, Linden on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Adrile Drakes of  Lot 12 Blueberry Hill, Christianburg, Linden. Drakes was employed as a meter reader with the electricity company at the time of his death.

According to a police report, enquiries revealed that the car involved in the accident was driven by 68-year-old Clifton Cadogan, of Blueberry Hill. At about 4.30 pm on Saturday, Cadogan was said to be driving north on the western side of the Sir David Rose Avenue Public Road, Mackenzie while Drakes was proceeding in the opposite direction. The report further stated that Drakes who was riding at a fast rate was in the process of negotiating a left bend when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the front of the right side of the car. He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

Drakes was a husband and a father of three, ages 6, 4, and  five-months-old.

“He was a very loving person. His son, the eldest boy know that his father died and keep asking when his father wake up, if he’ll come home”, shared Orin Drakes, father of the deceased.

The senior Drakes said that his son, aside from his job with the electricity company, also did a part-time job to sustain his family. He noted that the last time he saw his son was on Saturday morning when he left his home for Georgetown to conduct some personal business. It was after Adrile returned from Georgetown that the accident occurred.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be done today.

The driver of the car was detained and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Both vehicles were lodged at the police station.
