Two more die of COVID, 66 new cases recorded

Guyana’s COVID-19 fatalities now stand at 179 with two new deaths yesterday and 66 new cases of the virus were recorded.

A Ministry of Health release announced the deaths of the individuals who were identified as a 54-year-old man from Region Four, and a 73-year-old man from Region One. According to the ministry the two men died while receiving care at a medical facility.

The 66 new cases of the virus pushed Guyana’s total number of confirmed cases to 7,780. The new cases came after 258 more persons were tested for the virus which increased the total number of persons tested to 51,277.

The health ministry’s regional distribution chart shows the new cases being recorded in seven regions; Region One -1 new case, Region Three – 4 cases, Region Four – 32 cases, Region Five – 4 cases, Region Six – 5 cases, Region Seven – 8 cases, and Region Ten – 12 new cases.

As a result the country now has 772 active cases, 62 of whom are in institutional isolation while the other 710 are in home isolation. Five persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Currently 15 persons are in institutional isolation and 64 more persons have recovered from the virus, increasing Guyana’s total number of recovered cases to 6,826.
