Accused in rape of girl, 13, to face trial

Collin Venture, who was charged with the rape of a 13-year-old girl, was committed to stand trial on Wednesday.

Venture is charged with engaging in sexual activities with a child under the age of 16 during the month of September, 2020.

Following a preliminary inquiry into the charge, Senior Magistrate Leron Daly found that there was sufficient evidence to have Venture stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

He will remain out of prison on $150,000 bail until the matter is called in the High Court.

Stabroek News previously reported that Venture was charged and released on $150,000 bail after making his appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan during an in-camera hearing at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Venture was not required to plead to the charge.
