(Trinidad Guardian) Trinidad-born, stand-up comic Arthur Joseph did his home town of Point Fortin and every Trinidadian at home and in the diaspora proud when he appeared on the popular US game show, Wheel of Fortune’s Friday episode and endeared himself to a worldwide audience.
The Fanny Village, Point Fortin native finished in first place beating out two other contestants, but was stumped on the final place puzzle, ‘Luxury Duplex’.
Joseph, 50, did not win the grand prize of $100,000, but still took home US $15,968 and he also won a trip to Belize, when he solved the place ‘All you have to do is have fun and relax.’
Even after migrating to the US in 2004, his Trini accent, mannerisms and unbridled joyful spirit were intact when he answered questions and spun the wheel on the game show interspersed with an infectious laugh.
In 2007, Joseph gave up his pursuit of the ultimate US $1 million prize to do something meaningful for his country when he appeared on the NBC game show Let’s Make a Deal.
He said he took the deal of a lifetime for T&T accepting US $70,700 instead declared Arthur Joseph moments after winning a surprise prize on the NBC game show Let’s Make a Deal on Wednesday night.
Apart from the US$70,700 he won, he accepted a deal that included the Miami Heat Arthur Joseph Fanny Village Basketball Court in his home town, courtesy of the 2006 NBA Champions The Miami Heat.
Joseph said he would send his mother on a well-deserved vacation when the COVID-19 pandemic is over, and also buy himself a new car if he won.
