The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is currently probing the discovery of a quantity of ammunition and boat engines, one of which was stolen, during a raid conducted in the Upper Berbice River area.

In a press release, the GPF said the raid was conducted on Thursday between 6am and 1pm at Sand Hill, Hururu and Paraway, Berbice River. During the raid, police ranks went to the home of a 20-year-old unemployed man of Paraway, Upper Berbice River, who reportedly fled through thick vegetation in the area when they arrived.

The police said during the escape, the man dropped an orange and yellow haversack which the police sergeant who was on the team immediately took possession of and searched. The release said that some 25 .45 calibre rounds, a .38 round, two 12-gauge cartridges and a .45 calibre magazine were found in the bag. The man’s home was also searched and a 15 HP engine and a 40 HP Yamaha engine were found in a room in the house.

Additionally, the police say that the 15 HP engine was reported missing between March 16 and 17, last year, at Hururu, Berbice River. The engine was positively identified to be the stolen engine by the robbery victim, who was contacted by police and summoned to the Aroaima Police Station, the police said.

The articles, including the ammunition, were lodged and investigations are pending as the suspect is yet to be arrested, the police reported.
