Four new COVID deaths recorded, virus cases up by 64

Guyana’s COVID-19 fatalities yesterday jumped to 220 as four new deaths were recorded.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Health yesterday. The country’s 217th and 218th fatalities were announced during the morning hours when the health ministry mentioned that they were identified as a 73-year-old woman from Region Three who died while receiving care at a medical facility. The 218th fatality recorded was identified as an 82-year-old man from Region Seven who died at home. A swab test was done upon arrival at a facility which showed that he was positive for COVID-19.

Guyana’s 219th and 220th fatalities were announced last evening and the ministry noted that they were identified as a 50-year-old man from Region Three and a 48-year-old man from Region three. They both died while receiving care at a medical facility.

Meanwhile, some 64 new cases of the virus were reported which increased the country’s total confirmed cases to 9,732. The new cases came after 829 more persons were tested for the virus thus increasing the total number of persons tested to date to 83,368.

There are now 901 active cases, 840 of whom are in home isolation while another 61 are in institutional isolation. Some 11 persons remain in the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit even as a total of 8,602 persons have so far recovered from the virus.
