COVID cases top 10,000

Guyana has now surpassed 10,000 cases of the novel coronavirus after some 109 new infections were confirmed yesterday.

The Ministry of Health’s updated COVID-19 dashboard on Friday showed that the new cases increased the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 10,007. The cases came after some 1,208 persons were tested and as a result the total number of persons tested so far now stands at 86,516.

There are now 970 active cases in the country, 57 of which are in institutional isolation, while another 913 are in home isolation. Additionally, 11 persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Of the new cases recorded 64 were reported in Region Four while 30 were recorded in Region Three. Three new cases were recorded in Region Five, six in Region Six, four in Region Seven and two in Region Ten. Seventeen persons remain in institutional quarantine while the number of deaths remained at 225.
