In three separate statements, the Ministry of Health (MOH) yesterday said that four more persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 247.

Deaths have spiralled in recent days raising concerns about the increasing deadliness of the virus.

The latest fatalities are a 59-year-old man from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), a 44-year-old man from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), a 73-year-old female from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and a 67-year-old female from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

They died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical facility.

Meanwhile 26 new cases of COVID have been reported and 14 persons are in the Intensive Care Unit.

The number of deaths on April 1st was 233. That figure has zoomed up to 247.

The ministry is stepping up its COVID vaccination drive and over one hundred fixed and mobile sites are to be available from today.

The sites have been listed on the MOH’s website and shared on Facebook.  They can be found at https://www.health.gov.gy/covid19/COVID-19%20Vaccination%20Sites%20and%20Dates/List%20of%20Designated%20vaccine%20sites.pdf
