France providing relief to St Vincent

France yesterday said that it has mobilized its representations in the Caribbean and started the cooperation and relief process for volcano-stricken St Vincent and the Grenadines.

A release from Paris’ Ambassador to Guyana and Suriname said that a military vessel will today be arriving in the capital of the island with experts to provide technical assistance, based on  local needs.

The release said that the French Red Cross has also prepared a first shipment of 24m³ goods and necessary supplies: food stocks, personal protection equipment, camping beds and various donations from different organizations. Other ships are on standby to be of help whenever needed.

The cooperation among (regional) medical services has increased and they are on high alert with regard to the needs and possibilities for extending medical aid, the release said.
