Nandlall sees attempts to convey impression of rift with Jagdeo

Attorney General Anil Nandlall today said that there continue to be efforts to convey the impression that there is a rift between him and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.

STATEMENT BY HON. MOHABIR ANIL NANDLALL SC MP

In certain quarters, there continue to be a concerted and concentrated effort, to convey the impression that there is a rift between Vice President and General Secretary of the Peoples Progressive Party Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and I.
Nothing is farthest from the truth.
A bold headline in today’s Kaieteur News seeks to perpetuate that myth. It boldly asserts that Vice President Jagdeo and I hold conflicting views on the need for a feasibility study in relation the gas to shore project. To support their contentions, they made references to convenient excerpts from what Mr. Jagdeo and I said at two different fora.
The truth is that from the time I observed the public criticism against Vice President Jagdeo on this issue, I drew it to his attention and we had a discussion during which I realized we shared similar views on the issue :
that is, from all the statistics that are available, this project will significantly reduce the cost of electricity in Guyana and will redound to the benefit of every Guyanese. In those circumstances, a feasibility study is unnecessary.
Those were the views that both Vice President Jagdeo and I expressed on those two programs. I also alluded to the Government’s commitment to do the relevant geotechnical studies and an Environmental Impact Assessment in respect of this project.
This is the second time in recent weeks that I have been forced to debunk efforts designed to create a wedge between the Vice President and I.
I sincerely hope that I have brought the requisite clarity to this issue.
