Hopetown Strikers battled the inclement weather and emerged as the latest club to join the Berbice Volleyball Association recently.

The club, which has both a male and a female team, served off their debut with a series of goodwill matches against the Port Mourant Under-17 team.

They also played an exhibition match with the male combined senior and junior factions of the established club.

The day’s event was a success with Port Mourant youths drawing first blood 30-19 and then being defeated by Strikers in a return match 22-30.

The senior PMTC team won in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22.

In the end tokens of encouragement were awarded to outstanding players.

Among those receiving awards in the female category  were Kenna Thom Ifill (Senior Women), Wileta Isaac’s and Tamara George (Junior females) while in the male division, Jason Lachman of Port Mourant juniors, Roberto Sijlman, Eaton McDonald and Shakeel Garaway of Hopetown juniors received awards.

According to a release, President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation, Levi Nedd welcomed the Hopetown teams to the volleyball family and thanked them for supporting volleyball through the coaching of national player Ronaldo Bobb.
