Region Nine man dies of COVID, 153 new cases reported

The Ministry of Health  yesterday said that another person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 263.

The latest fatality is a 94-year-old male from Region Nine (Upper Takutu- Upper Essequibo) who died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical facility.

Meanwhile, a whopping 153 new cases of the virus were yesterday recorded after over 2,000 persons were tested.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard which increased the total number of positive confirmed cases in the country to 11,527. Some 2,478 more persons were tested for the virus which increased the total number of persons tested to 104,531.

New cases were recorded in seven regions with Regions Four and Three reporting the majority being: 82 and 31 respectively.

There are now 1,239 active cases in the country with 78 in institutional isolation and another 1,161 in home isolation. The number of persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit has decreased to 10 even as some 135 more persons have recovered from the virus thus increasing the total number of recovered cases to 10,015.
