A police constable was yesterday charged with assaulting a fellow officer after a row about a missing slipper.

David Lampkin, 24, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the assault charge to him before releasing him on self-bail.

It is alleged that on January 31, at the Brickdam Police Station, he unlawfully assaulted Corinth Corbin, a police constable.

Lampkin pleaded not guilty to the charge. His attorney told the court that he was shot in the leg by the other party, who is currently on the run. He added that both men were on duty at the time and that his client should be placed on reasonable bail.

According to the Police Prosecutor, on the day in question, the two officers were at the Police Station when an argument erupted after a pair of slippers went missing.

It was reported to the police that Lampkin suffered a shot to his right leg during the argument and that he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital to get treatment for the gunshot wound.

The prosecutor added that Corbin was helping police with the investigations but he has since gone into hiding.

Lampkin was placed on self-bail. The matter was adjourned until May 18.
